Heart and Soul Battle System
This is an explanation of how we roleplay battles at Heart and Soul. There may be different roleplaying rules from battles between members but that will only apply at the Battle Frontier. Our method of battling is somewhat similar to the Pokemon games rather than to the Pokemon anime/TV shows.
Type of Battles: 1 vs 1 battle, 2 vs 2 battle, 2 vs 1 battle.
- We encourage members to make one attack per post in order to maintain the turn-based feature of the Pokemon games.
- The battle will be illustrated in a screen similar to this:
Battle
____________________________________________________
Zapdos | Level 60 |
Health : 100%
Status : Normal
Shiny Gyarados | Level 70 |
Health : 100%
Status : Paralyzed
Weather: The rain is pouring down(1/5).
____________________________________________________
It keeps track of the health, weather conditions and the status of each Pokemon.
- Often I will use a damage calculator such as Psypoke Tools to get a general idea of how much damage is done in reality and I'll convert it into a percentage. However, the amount of damage inflicted does not have to be within the calculated range and can depend on what happens in the roleplay. Attacks that graze Pokemon will obviously do less damage than heavy, critical hits.
- You cannot command your Pokemon to dodge an attack.Your Pokemon will try and dodge every single move as a natural instinct. The person moderating your battle will determine whether your moves hit or miss and if the opponent's moves hit or miss. Moves with 100% accuracy will be the most accurate though such moves can miss. Those with lower accuracy or affected by evasion changing moves will obviously have lower accuracy.
- Faster Pokemon will attack first but you won't need to worry about this. Select a move and if the opponent is faster the moderator will make the opponent's attack hit first.
- Trainers may switch out their Pokemon but this will count as a "turn", giving the opponent a free shot at the new Pokemon coming in. Fainted Pokemon that need to be switched out do NOT take up an extra turn.
- Sometimes, Pokemon might be too tired to attack which occurs when Pokemon are at low health. This is not a feature of Pokemon games but may occur in roleplaying.
- There are also other things which may happen in the battle which cannot happen in normal Pokemon games and is not described above. This will depend on the flow of the battle.
- This final point is directed to moderators and is not a rule but more of a guideline. Moderators should be considerate and fair when moderating a trainer's battle. It is generally expected that moderators should lose the battle but they should make it as interesting as possible (i.e. They should try and inflict a bit of damage to the trainer's Pokemon and possibly faint some if more than 1 Pokemon are involved). Likewise trainers should not try and take on the Elite Four with level 5 Pokemon and expect to win.
